Does a person have to attend church to be a Christian?
Do be a Christian the only requirement is that we ask for forgiveness of our sins. This means past and present sins. This is where John 3:16-18 comes into play. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's only Son." (John 3:16-18) So, yes a person can be a Christian and not attend church. However, that does not mean that a Christian shouldn't go church.
As Christians that Bible does say that we should attend church. "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebrews 10:23-25) "Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!" (Psalm 149:1) "Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens!" (Psalm 150:1) "For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20) These verses talk about the fact that God wants us to gather together.
There is great benefit to coming together as a body of believers. We can share in the joys and the sorrows of life. We can help each other gain understanding of the Bible by coming together and reasoning together. We also can lift each other up in prayer. We can help encourage each other when we are in need of encouragement. We can also hold each other accountable when we are struggling in our faith or when we are dealing with temptation or sin.
I invite you to join us for church. We would love to have you come. You can see our times and location on our website or app. See you soon!
