Wrestling With Faith

Should we ask God for anything that we want? Should we expect God to give us everything that we ask for?
These questions are great and everyone wrestles with this.  I am going to answer this question based on scripture.

Matthew 21:22 says, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

James 4:3 says, When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with the wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

Luke 11:9 says, "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

John 15:7 says, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."

As we look at these scriptures it is important to realise that the key is relationship with God.  God desires for us to have life to the fullest.  God does not always say yes, just like a good parent does not always say yes either.  A good parent will sometimes say yes, sometimes no, and sometimes not now.  The key is what is in the best interests of the children.  God is the same way.

God seeks relationship with us and he tells us that we can ask him anything.  God does say yes when it is good.  God says no when it is bad for us.  God says not now when it is an okay request but the timing is not good.

God warns us about our motives.  if my focus his my own selfish desires and I don't care about God or anyone else, then I can expect nothing from God.  When I am seeking God and the seeking to please God and I ask with the desire to maintain relationship with God and I am lovingly concerned with God then I can trust that God will answer me.  When it comes to material desires God does not always answer yes but sometimes he will.

If you are seeking God, God will answer with a yes for HIs presence.  If you are seeking time with God, He will grant you time.  When we ask for the salvation of others the only reason why God would not grant this type of request is because He has given everyone free will and He will not force anyone to accept Him and worship Him.  However, God will answer the request by giving those people many opportunities to make a decision.

To directly answer this question, that yes God wants you to ask Him for all things, needed and desired.  God wants you to build a loving relationship with Him where you will bring Him all good things and bad things alike because He is the one that you love and trust. God will answer you and you will know that God answered.  God does not always say yes.  When God can answer yes He will.
