Why do bad things happen to good people?
This is the question that everyone keeps asking. First, part of this is the idea of being a good person. Romans 3:23, tells us that "everyone has sinned and fall short of God's glorious standard. " For without God's grace no one can be considered "good." We need to confess our sins to God and allow the Holy Spirit work within us. It is the blood of Jesus that allows us to be seen as good.
The second of this the world is corrupted by sin. Romans 8:21-22 says, "The creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. It was sin in the world that introduced pain, struggle and death. We are not exempt for these things. We will face struggle, pain, and death. God never promises to take us out of those situations but instead promises to be with us and help us to stand up in the midst of it. In John 17:15, "I m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one." So, regardless if we are "good" or not we will face trails and problems and even injury or death. We may seem that this isn't fair but it happens because of sin. "God works all things out for His glory"- Romans 8:28. Sometimes, God does to miracles and sometimes God gives a the the strength to face what we are goes through. God always works in ways that will bring Glory to God.
Regarding the part of when loved ones die. This is part of life. We will all face death unless Jesus returns within your lifetime. We are not guaranteed any amount of time on this earth. We all have a certain number of days on this earth. Some people might only live a few and fulfill what God has for instore for them and another person can live 80 or 90 years and fulfill God's plan for them. It is hard for us to understand but in both situations God is honored.
