What does it look like to live as though Jesus could knock on the door at any moment? That is the striking question at the heart of this message drawn from James 5:7-12. Using the vivid image of a visitor standing just outside your front door, we are invited to consider how closeness changes everything. When someone is right there on the porch, our tone shifts, our urgency sharpens, and we suddenly care deeply about how we are presenting ourselves. James uses this same logic to challenge us about the return of Christ. If we truly believe he is near, why do so many of us feel anxious or even fearful at the thought? The honest answer is that fear often signals a gap between what we profess and how we are actually living. The farmer in James's illustration does not panic. He plants, he tends, and he waits with calm confidence because he understands that the timing belongs to God. We are called to that same grounded patience, not passivity, but a steady, intentional readiness that shapes every word we speak, every promise we make, and every moment we endure hardship. This is a message about closing the distance between our faith and our daily lives, and discovering that when we do, the return of Christ becomes something we genuinely look forward to rather than something we quietly dread.
