This powerful message challenges us to examine a fundamental question that shapes our entire spiritual journey: Who are we truly trying to please? Drawing from Colossians 3:23-24, Romans 15:1-2, 1 Corinthians 10:31-33, and Galatians 2:1-10, we're invited to explore the delicate balance between seeking human approval and living for God's glory. The sermon reveals how we often find ourselves like ships tossed by waves, constantly shifting our positions to gain acceptance from those around us. We're reminded of the crowd in Jerusalem who praised Jesus one day and called for His crucifixion days later, illustrating how fickle human opinion can be. The central insight is profound: when we make compromises to fit in or gain approval, we water down the gospel message and lose sight of God's call on our lives. Yet there's a healthy way to engage with others, as Paul demonstrated by becoming all things to all people for the sake of the gospel. The key difference lies in our motivation. Are we managing perceptions to advance ourselves, or are we positioning ourselves strategically to share Christ's love? This message calls us to maintain our eyes on Christ while intentionally placing ourselves in circles of influence where we can be the only example of Jesus some people will ever know. It's a challenging call to authentic faith that doesn't compromise truth while still building bridges to reach the lost.
